Construction and Conservation Corps
CONSTRUCTION
Through partnerships with the SBP, Inc. formerly the St. Bernard Project, Habitat for Humanity and Rebuilding Together, local youths acquire hands-on experience while rehabilitating blighted homes, doing ground-up construction for low-income families and incorporating building science skills into their work. Students will be exposed to installing drywall, framing, mudding, taping, painting, hanging doors, installing trim, laminating, flooring and siding.
GREEN INFRASTRUCTURE/ STORMWATER MANAGEMENT
With our city receiving over sixty inches of rain a year and an outdated drainage infrastructure, it is vital for water management to be handled correctly. Stormwater Management is a smart, cost-effective and resilient approach to managing urban flooding. Stormwater Management is a growing field with over 12,000 new job openings expected in the next five years.
Through our collaboration with our partners in the public, non-profit and private sector, students learn different systems used in the mitigation of stormwater, french drains, sunken gardens, bioswales, native plants, etc.

ENERGY EFFICIENCY/ WEATHERIZATION
With our partner's Energy Wise and Global Green students are taught cost-conscious and energy efficient strategies that can benefit both homeowners and renters. Throughout the classroom and hands-on training, students learn about home weatherization, energy audits and blower doors. Students also learn what items use the most energy in homes and the benefits of LED light bulbs over incandescent light bulbs.
SOLAR ENERGY / SOLAR PANEL INSTALLATION
Over the past year, Louisiana Green Corps has partnered with local Solar company, Solar Alternatives- as well as orgs Feed the Second Line and Together Louisiana to offer our participants career exploration and workshops in Solar Energy, as well as internships in solar panel installation.
COASTAL RESTORATION
In recent years, we have partnered with Tierra Foundation and Common Ground Relief to provide education, training and career exploration in coastal restoration through bald cyrpess and other native plantings, and carbon wetland mointoring in the Greater New Orleans area.
