The LAGC’s YCCC program, for young adults, is a free & paid 12-week construction and conservation jobs training program that provides nationally recognized certification training, soft skills training, internships and in-the-field training, performance incentives, and job placement incentives to individuals 18 to 24 in the Greater New Orleans Area.

Our Green Infrastructure Construction and Conservation (GICC) is a 10-week free & paid training comprised of professional development (soft skills), skills attainment (construction and GI), and a paid internship.

Participants will earn the following nationally recognized industry-based credentials:

  • NCCER Core (Construction Essentials)
  • OSHA 10 Construction Safety
  • Forklift Operation Certificate
  • Clean Water Certificate (GI only)

All students also receive the opportunity to concentrate on math, reading and language skills from an academic instructor. Financial proficiency, employability skills, resume writing, resiliency and tool training workshops are also included in our program.

LAGC provides training stipends as well as transportation assistance and childcare funding. The YCCC and GICC program offers four classes a year free for those who qualify.

Through partnerships with the SBP, Inc. formerly the St. Bernard Project, Habitat for Humanity and Rebuilding Together, local youths acquire hands-on experience while rehabilitating blighted homes, doing ground-up construction for low-income families and incorporating building science skills into their work. Students will be exposed to installing drywall, framing, mudding, taping, painting, hanging doors, installing trim, laminating, flooring and siding.

With our city receiving over sixty inches of rain a year and an outdated drainage infrastructure, it is vital for water management to be handled correctly. Stormwater Management is a smart, cost-effective and resilient approach to managing urban flooding. Stormwater Management is a growing field with over 12,000 new job openings expected in the next five years.

Through our collaboration with our partners in the public, non-profit and private sector, students learn different systems used in the mitigation of stormwater, french drains, sunken gardens, bioswales, native plants, etc.

With our partner's Energy Wise and Global Green students are taught cost-conscious and energy efficient strategies that can benefit both homeowners and renters. Throughout the classroom and hands-on training, students learn about home weatherization, energy audits and blower doors. Students also learn what items use the most energy in homes and the benefits of LED light bulbs over incandescent light bulbs.

Quotes from Youth Construction and Conservation Corps

“I have had a rocky life, making many mistakes in my past. I have learned from them and they are the reasons I am so determined to make a change in my life. Gaining this construction knowledge would give me a career path I could retire from. Taking everything that is o ered from LAGC, and the experience gained, I can make those dreams a reality.”
